PM Narendra Modi Friday reported that the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna grant will currently be known as the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, "regarding the feelings of residents the nation over". The Khel Ratna grant is the most noteworthy wearing honor in the country.
"I have been getting many solicitations from residents across India to name the Khel Ratna Award after Major Dhyan Chand. I express gratitude toward them for their perspectives. Regarding their feeling, the Khel Ratna Award will thusly be known as the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award! Jai Hind!" Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
The Khel Ratna grant was organized in 1991-1992 and the first recepient was Chess legend Viswanathan Anand. Among different champs were Leander Paes, Sachin Tendulkar, Dhanraj Pillay, Pullela Gopichand, Abhinav Bindra, Anju Bobby George, Mary Kom and Rani Rampal in 2020.
The presently renamed Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna grant accompanies a monetary reward of Rs 25 lakh.
Known as The Wizard, Major Dhyan Chand, a field hockey player, played global hockey from 1926 to 1949, scroing more than 400 objectives in his vocation. Dhyan Chand, brought into the world in Allahabad, was essential for the Olympic group that won gold decorations in 1928, 1932 and 1936.
